Islamization of Tekrour

Around the year 1035, the king of Takrur, War Jabi, made a choice that would change the history of his people: he adopted Islam. He is one of the first kings in Africa south of the Sahara to have done so. From that day, Islam began its long journey through the Senegal River valley.
