The phosphates of Taïba and the ICS — mineral wealth
1984 · Mboro, Tivaouane
Phosphate has been mined at Taïba, in the Thiès region, since 1948. In March 1984, the official start-up of the Industries Chimiques du Sénégal (ICS) made it possible to process it locally into phosphoric acid and fertiliser. The ICS became the country's largest industrial complex and its leading export engine, supporting thousands of families and earning the state vital foreign currency for its development.
