Kingdom of Cayor — the most powerful Wolof kingdom

~1549–1886 · Mboul, Cayor

Founded after the Battle of Danki in 1549, Cayor became one of the most powerful Wolof kingdoms of Senegal. Its ruler bore the title of Damel. Cayor had a formidable cavalry and fertile lands. It was in this kingdom that Lat Dior was born, who resisted French colonisation until he fell in battle at Dekheulé in 1886.
