Battle of Danki — end of Djolof supremacy
~1549 · Cayor
In 1549, Prince Amari Ngoné Sobel Fall led the warriors of Cayor to victory at the Battle of Danki. This victory ended Djolof's supremacy over the region. The kingdoms that composed it — Waalo, Baol, Sine and Saloum — regained their independence. It was from this moment that the sovereign Wolof kingdoms were born, kingdoms that would mark history for centuries.
