Gaston Berger University — Senegal's second university
2 janvier 1990 · Saint-Louis
Created by the law of 2 January 1990, Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis welcomed its first class of six hundred students in December of that same year. It was Senegal's second university, after the one in Dakar. Located a few kilometres from Saint-Louis, it bears the name of the philosopher Gaston Berger, a native of the city. It has since trained generations of graduates and eased the pressure on Dakar's university, bringing higher education closer to the north of the country.
