The Paris-Dakar Rally — Lake Retba

1979 – 2007 · Lac Rose (Retba)

For nearly thirty years, the arrival of the famous Paris-Dakar Rally on the shores of Lake Retba (the Pink Lake) was a great annual event. Every January, thousands of Senegalese cheered the riders and drivers of motorbikes, cars and trucks as they completed their crossing of the Sahara. In 2007 came the last edition to finish in Senegal: for security reasons, the race left Africa, closing a memorable chapter of Senegalese sport and tourism.
