1970 · Richard-Toll
Created in 1970 at Richard-Toll, in the Senegal River valley, the Compagnie Sucrière Sénégalaise (CSS) grows sugar cane over more than twelve thousand hectares. The country's only sugar agro-industrial complex, it turns cane into refined sugar and aims for national self-sufficiency. The leading employer of the northern region, the CSS gave rise to a true company town and remains a pillar of Senegalese agriculture and industry.
