Thiaroye 1944 — the betrayed sacrifice
1er déc. 1944 · Dakar
On 1 December 1944, African soldiers returned from the war demanded payment of what they were owed. The colonial authorities refused and ordered them fired upon at the Thiaroye camp, near Dakar. Dozens of soldiers lost their lives that day. This event remains one of the most painful episodes of the colonial period in Senegal.
