23–25 sept. 1940 · Dakar

In September 1940, the Free French forces — led by General de Gaulle — and the British Royal Navy attempted to retake Dakar from Vichy French forces. The operation, called Menace, failed after two days of fighting. Senegalese civilians were hit. Dakar remained under Vichy control until 1942.
