Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba and the Mouridiyya

1883 · Mbacké

Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba was born in 1853 at Mbacké-Baol, in central Senegal. After his father was called back to God in 1883, he devoted his life to spiritual guidance and founded the Mouridiyya brotherhood. Its three pillars are work, prayer and devotion. The French authorities exiled him twice — seven years in Gabon, then four in Mauritania. Each time, he returned more respected than before.
