Revolution of the Fouta-Toro — Abdoul Kader Kane
1776–1807 · Podor
In 1776, in Fouta-Toro — a region of northern Senegal — men of learning overthrew the old dynasty that ruled without justice. Thierno Souleymane Ball led this revolt and lost his life in it. His companion Abdoul Kader Kane founded an Islamic state and governed it wisely for thirty years, standing up to outside pressures until his death in 1807.
