The Slave Trade — Gorée
15th c. – 19th century · Gorée
For four centuries, thousands of Africans were torn from their families and forced aboard ships from Gorée Island to the Americas. The House of Slaves, with its door of no return facing the Atlantic, keeps their memory. In 1978, UNESCO listed Gorée as a World Heritage site. People from all over the world come there to pay tribute to those who suffered.
