In June 2002, at the World Cup in South Korea and Japan, Senegal pulled off one of football's greatest upsets, defeating reigning world champions France with a goal by Papa Bouba Diop. On their very first World Cup, the Lions reached the quarter-finals — still one of the finest moments in African football.
